Yesterday, New York was host to the 60th annual Grammy awards. For me, the most compelling part of the evening took place before the awards began: on the red carpet.
It is fair to say that fashion now plays a major part of any award ceremony, in particularly at the Grammy’s. The Grammy’s have become somewhat famous for their red carpet looks, attracting some of the boldest outfit choices of the different award ceremony’s.
Some looks from the evening:
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga, known for her bold outfit choices, wore an all black Armani dress to the award ceremony. Although this dress featured a lengthy trail, I thought that it was quite a toned down look for the celebrity, especially when comparing it to the outfits of prior years.
Lana Del Ray
Lana Del Rey wore a bohemian style dress by Gucci. This has to be my favourite look of the Grammy red carpet. Lana Del Rey almost mirrored the outfit worn by Hedy Lamarr in the 1941 film Ziegfeld Girl. I think that this outfit was chosen to make a political statement about powerful women, in particularly because of the prominence of the Times Up campaign at the awards. Cardi B
Cardi B wore an all white, structured Ashi Studio dress paired with Christian Louboutin shoes. This dress was a cross between art and fashion, featuring a short front, trail back. The back panels along with the soft white fabric give the dress an angelic feel.
Rita Ora
Rita Ora chose to go classic with her dress by Ralph and Russo, featuring subtle embellishment detailing. This was another one of my favourite dresses at the Grammy awards.
Ashanti
Ashanti wore an amazing gold dress with a fluted hem. For me this dress was classic red carpet in almost every aspect.
